August 15, 2011 // Carolina Park Recreation Complex Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Town of Mount Pleasant Mayor Pro Tem Paul Gawrych, Council members John Burn, Elton Carrier, Nick Collins and Thomasena Stokes-Marshall, along with Seamon Whiteside + Associates President Kenny Seamon and design staff, investor/developer Ben Marino, and Gulf Stream Construction Company team members met with recreation staff and South Carolina United Mount Pleasant players, coaches and parents for the opening of the Carolina Park Recreation Complex Athletic Fields on August 15, 2011.

The genesis of the complex began with a needs assessment in 2006. By early 2007, the design firm Seamon Whiteside + Associates was selected to design the complex. On December 2009, Gulfstream Construction was awarded the contract to build the complex. Major construction concluded in the spring of 2011 and work began to prepare the fields for fall season. Phase 1 of the project cost over $2.2 million and is being acclaimed as an extremely successful project for the Town, our residents and athletes. Amenities include four multipurpose athletic fields that can accommodate soccer, lacrosse and football along with a paved entry road, lighting and parking area.
